Live beavers would wreck your floats.

Could rig up a stand with some #9 or something in the front of the float, but I don’t think I’d fool around with it.
It is fun trying to catch stuff with ideas out of left field though….think outside the box eh?

First time making/using floats. I made them lightweight and collapsible. 32in 2x2 and pool noodles. Attach a piece of pvc with wire in the V to keep it open. I run cord clipped to a block and tie it to the float so I can have slack for water level changes. The 330 is on a long cable that I also attach to the block not the float. Attach a tube for castor and wire fresh popple for eye appeal.

I have 8 out for a test run. Scored my first this past weekend.

That is thinking outside the box by being collapsible. Great idea. What kind of paint did you use?

I just used Rustoleum brown camo paint. The 2x2s are untreated. I bought some treated ones, but they were heavier and haven't tried those yet. The untreated may be prone to rot, but for my initial test run I'll see how well they hold up.

I split a pool noodle in half to run between the 2x2s. Then the other half goes on the bottom. I then take a full noodle about 16in long. Make a slit and add that to the front under the trap for trap bouancy. They sure do look good sitting in the water. The only problem is the trap is attached to the block. So if the water is deep you have to pull the block up by the float cord to get at the trap cable. If I attached the trap cable to the float, it would probably pull it under or have so much drag the current could drag the block into a deep hole.

We will see. They will sit for a week yet, then I'll pull them all.

My 2×4's are ten years old and not pressure treated, and painted with Rust-Oleum brown also. They are left outside all year long. Haven't had to deal with any rot at all. Pressure treated will add to your weight considerably and not needed imo
