.....my NV scope is down to to a problem with the mounting screws, it's like a 12yr old unit so guess it time something happened, and I have what sounds like a pack of coyotes less then 200yd off my front step across the pasture on the neighboring property that the owners ( out of state) guys treat like north Korea..... Even though the few times I've talked to them they complain about all the fox and coyotes....but won't let me call or trap....
This is just a lil sample of what it's been sounding like the last hour , there's like 5 out there right now and I swear I could probably pop one in the butt with a sling shot doing sound shots
At this point I just think I'm cursed or the good lord is putting me though all them mess so I'm more thankful when I kill one of them mangey worthless things
Think I'll just take this caller tomorrow and go get lost in the national first and see what happens

Those are some weird sounding coyotes. If I was to guess someone is infringing on someone else’s territory. Think mating season is about over and I’d imagine females have already searched out dens. Starting May or so they should be dropping pups. Haven’t really heard that sound, but that close and the ecaller and thermal would definitely put some down.

Hmm. That's about what I always here this time of the year, or really whenever I hear them

Wolfie the only time I’m really that close is when I’ve heard them in the distance and marked their location and then wait a night or best wind to slip in TIGHT before calling. Even then they will generally respond with a howl or get excited and add some yipping in there with it. If I can get that response, I’m 90% confident of a kill. The pair the other night took a little coaxing, lol.
Summer I’m learning is the BEST time to call. More coyotes on the deck to play with and adults are either wanting to protect pups or kill pups. It’s a win/win for calling!!
I’m hoping to have 2 complete setups by next year. Something about shooting suppressed makes it that much more fun!!

That initial bark/howl is like a warning or challenge…the one off in the distance is the one inquiring about crossing over. Sounds like you got a pair living close. Probably a den close by and they don’t tolerate intruders.
And all that is based off research of calls and podcast. I want to know what a call means before I make it, lol.

I have noticed that coyotes in different areas, especially far off states, sound very different from each other. The varying amounts of dog and wolf DNA, plus adaptations to their specific area, probably account for most of the difference. The coyotes near me sound much better, at least to.me, than all the Southern coyotes and most of the Western coyotes I have heard. They make a large number of different vocalizations and most are pretty melodious. I like hearing them.

Interesting fact there's 19 different recognized subspecies of coyote

That makes sense. How large are the coyotes in your area?
The full adult males I've caught probably average 38 pounds, with most being slightly less, but a few oddly large ones bumping up the average. Females are mostly quite a bit smaller, probably averaging around 31 pounds. I've never caught a large female, like I sometimes do in the males.
