Hello all,
I need a hand. My youngest daughter wanted to learn how to trap after seeing some of my old trapline pictures, so I broke out some steel and we ran a short line for a couple of weeks this winter.
We have a few green hides that I need to have fleshed / boarded. I have always done this myself but due to a bad back I cant hover over a fleshing beam more than a minute or so without nearly passing out from pain. I am located south of Raleigh but don't mind travelling or paying a fair price for good work.

Any info or help would be greatly appreciated.

We ended up with some really nice coon and cats and a blanket beaver. I'd like to get these tanned and have something made for her for Christmas eventually. Any ideas on best place for that? Ive been out of the game a while.

Sleepy Creek will take green hides and do all the fleshing and tanning

Prices were very reasonable

If you cant find anyone try a vertical beam and pull down on the flesher instead of bending over the beam and pushing.
You can sit while fleshing pulling the knife down and towards yourself.
Go easy at first or your shoulders will tighten up until they get work hardened.

This should have been thought out and planned before harvesting the animals.

Tell your daughter to watch some YouTube videos on fleshing and get her to do it. Or show her yourself 1 minute at a time.

I have been doing just that but she still has a ways to go. We got quite a few hides to go, at our pace the hair will slip before we get finished...

JP, I do appreciate a well timed sniping when done with class, as i believe it provokes thought and adds a little spice to life.

I would gladly accept your leading comment and say well done but i feel i must inform that I did not plan on injuring my upper back prior to running a line with my daughter this year. For some reason i feel I must explain to you that I injured my back after I had put the steel away for the year and our fur had been skinned and frozen to flesh and board at a later date. So with that, I must say that it was not well timed or done with class, but good try, Sir.

And if, as my hopes are, I will heal and get back to putting up fur once again soon.

Not trying to inflame a situation, just giving a defense.
