Is Alabama a state worth doing adc work in? How are the regs? Just curious.
Thanks,
Sarge

Regs are great, demographics not. That's why I'm in Atlanta and not back home in Birmingham.

Wife is thinking about Guntersville/ Huntsville area. Anybody know anything about Boaz?
I would consider, but only if I can make it doing adc work. Our income requirements are not that extravagant.

Hey, Warrior. What are a few regs that are annoying?
Thanks,
Sarge

ADC permitting is rather simple. Establish residency, 90 days. Buy fur catchers license, go to your district biologist and ask for an ADC letter.

No closed season on beaver, coyote or hogs raccoon and opossum recently added. Hogs must be dispatched in the trap on the land where caught, no live hog moves anywhere in the state.

Footholds on land 6 inch inside. No bodygriper larger than 5" opening on land. Larger footholds and bodygrippers must be in water, no requirement for fully submerged. Snares in water, beaver only. Land sets 24 hour check, water sets intended to kill or drown 72 hour.

Raccoons may be relocated within the same county and water shed. Written permission of landowner required and in possession to trap or release.

No ROW trapping.

Traps must be tagged with either name/address or customer ID#.

This is what I recall and may be off on a few.

Mama was born in Boaz. Coolest location in the entire state up there on top of Sand Mountain. Cool being subjective, 2-3 degrees cooler than the rest of the state, lol. Forget ADC in that area, mostly rural sparsely populated.

Huntsville/Madison County and Mobile are the two fastest growing areas of the state. Huntsville would be on my list of three urban centers if your ADC is bread and butter squirrels, bats, city work. Huntsville, Shelby County/Hoover and Mobile but be prepared to cover some ground to generate enough work. From Huntsville you can cover most of the Tennessee Valley, look west towards Muscle Shoals.
From Shelby County you can reach Tuscaloosa, bat central, or south down the 280 corridor to Auburn/Opelika.
Mobile you're looking at Mobile and Washington County and parts of Baldwin. I say parts because going around Mobile Bay, north/south, eats up alot of drive time.

If you good at coyote long lining AND you know the right people high fence and high end deer properties can pay well BUT you gotta love the long hours and labor that goes into keeping those people happy. Beaver pretty much the same.

The tag used to be the worst of it. License # and you got a new one every year. That and name and address.

Weasel and pocket gophers off limits. But you'll never see a weasel unless you hit the lottery and gophers are only down in Wiregrass region in the southeast corner of the state.

BTW, I only half jokingly say the reason I moved to Atlanta is that back home folks eat their problems.

Yep, good at dillar work. Folks around here are freaked out over them. Just showed up here about 2 years ago.
My bread and butter is beaver, skunk, coons, armadillo and squirrel.
Notes, not so much. Love trapping them. But, Folks here won't pay what it's worth.
Grow up in Florida and used to catch armadillos and spray paint them florescent colors and turned them loose near Disney as a boy growing up. I'm sure the tourists thought Florida had strange critters.
Don't mind traveling daily. Doing about 500 to 1,000 miles.weekly here. And certainly thought about doing yote work away from home out of a camper set up.

Dad's side of family are from Alabama. Northwest corner. Winston County.
Also, have to be around good deer/ hog country is a bonus. But trophy catfish is a must. LOL Love my trophy catfishing.
That's way I love Santee here in SC.

Free State of Winston, that's Jtrapper's stomping grounds. Big catfish then Huntsville/Tennessee Valley is where you want to be. Pickwick is the trophy hotspot. State record and former world record blue came out of Pickwick, 111lbs.

Bama has had dillers for as long as I can remember. Used to chase them down when I still could. Got to Atlanta about the time they were first showing up. The local guys were clueless and for about three years I was the go to guy for dillers till they figured it out.

If fishing is your thing then Mobile has alot going for it. There's a stretch up the Middle river just above I10 where you can catch bass, fresh and saltwater cats, gar, jack pike/pickerel, flounder, specks and redfish depending on current and wind and tide.

I grew up west of Hueytown on the Warrior River. Started doing ADC there. From where I was on the river I covered Bessemer to 165 north to Cullman west to Jasper south to Hoover west to Tuscaloosa and the state line from there south to Greensboro. That's what it took for one tech.

Another idea. From Huntsville it's not that long of a ride to the southern outskirts of Nashville. That corridor is growing as both Huntsville and Nashville expand. Don't know the costs of cross border trapping but if the numbers work I'd look long and hard at it.

Dad's side of family are from Alabama. Northwest corner. Winston County. Bless your heart, lol. Yep im from the county seat of that moonshiner's paradise, big city of Double Springs.

Got a buddy up in Guntersville staying pretty busy doing ADC work so imagine can find enough to keep you busy. Otter's off boat docks is his specialty.

Jtrapper, yep. Moonshine. My two uncles were law enforcement. One was chief of police in Haleyville. The other a Sheriff. Both knew where to get good shine.
Thery used to tell me they knew all the shiners. Would see them every Sunday at church. Didn't see the point in busting anyone for trying to make a living.
Both worked night shift. One was an electrician during the day. The other had a saw shop.
Both wanted me to live there and become a LEO and take over the saw shop.
I was young and wanted adventure. And adventure I got. Both are gone now.
Always fished for crappie for two weeks every spring I believe at Lake Aliceville.

Warrior. Before I left. You could use =CID # in place off = Address and Licenae #. CID is # you get on hunting license . So you can check in deer. So = Name CID = For trapping Tag is all you need now. Coyote trapping is where the money is. That’s ALL down south. 200-300 dollars a day is possible. 14-30 day jobs are the normal. The statute of limitations is over for me. SO. There are fox and coyote pens in Alabama to sell live coyotes and grey fox too. Do SO AT YOUR OWN RISK !!! LOL!!

Steeltrap. Live market here as well. They will try and nickle and dime ya to death. So, I don't sell. Yotes get shot. Foxes skinned when prime.
Used to get $125 -150 for yote many years ago. Not worth the trouble now. Like you, get paid by the day per property or by the mile.

Yeah, I knew they went to a system similar to what we have here in Georgia. A permanent number system.

I've never understood the nonsense of no live market while leaving the pens in place.

How are the pens stocked? Free donations, foxes and coyotes invited to participate? It's crazy.

If live market is bad then close the pens if not the pens are fine give back live market trapping.

All because some fools were importing out of state canines. In that case punish the buyer not the state trappers.
