I aquired this trap and noticed something odd. The frame and springs are Triumph. The pan is a 1911 pat vVctor but is on a Triumph pan shank, even with the 2 rivets. It definitely looks factory. Would this be a result of Victor using left over Triumph parts? Confused in PA.

Yes, you are correct. In 1933, Gibbs bought out Triumph and in 1936 Animal Trap Company bought out Gibbs, acquiring the Gibbs and Triumph parts. ATC then used the Triumph parts to make these Victor traps.

Would it have a bit more value than a normal Victor #4?

Yes, but as always, condition is important. This model was made in #2, 3 and 4.

Thanks for the info. Those pics dont do it justice. There is rust, no pitting, kind of like the traps I have got from out west type rust- not that killer eastern rust.. It would clean up nicely with some WD40 and a toothbrush.

They were called mystery barrel traps.

They sure werent letting those Triumph shanks go to waste. And to think someone had to drill 2 holes in the Victor pan to fit. I guess nowadays it would probably cost more than it was worth to do that and they would have ended up in the scrap barrel. The more I look at the jaws the more they look like Triumph but Im no expert. What is crazy is the trap is 90% Triumph but is sold as a Victor......
