hens move from forest to field edges in the spring close too abundant food and water for nesting, gobblers follow the hens for breeding, then after mating season gobblers return to their home ranges, the hens also after successfully raising their clutches.

Gobblers keep to themselves most of the year jakes and hens seem to like each others company then spring arrives and the gobblers get friendly but mating pressures force a dispersal and the smaller groups spread out over a larger area. Many of these groups end up in places that they are normally not seen at.

I know on my place I have them around all wintah and spring in summer and fall don't see them that much. They do have a routine and a pattern to their day if not getting disturbed.

How far they travel I would say on food availability. So, being a nomadic creature is part of their life but are a very territorial creature I would have to believe.

Here are few pictures from the last few weeks on their daily journey.
