When I was young I use to fish alot and tie a over hand knot with a half hitch. Now when I thought with work I am willl take my boat out to go fishing for catfish and carp. For pocket sets later in the year so what knot should I use?.

Improved clinch knot is hard to beat, and a Palomar knot is supposed to be stronger.... check out any fishing line manufacturer, they usually, or used to have pictures of how to tie them, or just do a googly search...

Here you go, all the knots for you. Click on the knot and it shows how to tie it. I have the app on my phone that has any knot you could ever need.

Mono holds knots differently than braid. Mono will stretch and compress so a knot will bite into itself and hold. Braid is slick, hard and does not stretch so requires different knots.

For mono I like a trilene which is a variety of the clinch. Braid I use the palomar mostly.

I’m a mono guy and favor the Trilene knot.

I use strictly mono for cats. My go to knots are trilene and improved trilene. It works for me. Way change.
