Splitting some large elm rounds kind of stringy some of the wetter ones were the dry ones not so bad. My splitter has a 30 inch ram opening since the boiler takes the longer pieces. The ram itself only goes out 24 inches not a big deal except with stringy type rounds. I use an old coal poker bar and stop the ram to hold the round in place then separate the unsplit rounds the rest of the way with the metal bar. One piece was a little loose and shifted so the bar slipped changing the direction of the bar. So I’m spitting blood for the next half hour but luckily I missed my teeth and nose just not the way I planned it.
Get up today the boiler blew both fuses never did that before, when the air door sticks it’s just the solenoid fuse on the air flap that blows but the whole thing is dead. Checked connections unstuck the door must of picked up a wet piece or two of wood the door was tared up tight. After checking wires I figured it must be the solenoid so unplugged that and the fuse held I’ve got controls to read out at least so I order a couple solenoid replacements.
Head out to clean up a few log piles at a neighbors place I start to cut some rounds and load some pieces then my clutch went out on my MS 390. Head over to the John Deere dealer to get parts the parts guy says he can’t look up the part he has no way to look it up since they are getting out of saw parts. I said so you might have the parts but can’t look them up? 2 minutes on my phone I have the part number no go so I head over to Ace Hardware to order it so sometime next week and $70 for that plus a new bar another $55.
I’ll be glad when this week is over.

I’m not bothered by challenges it’s just time to shift into low gear no big deal but I see why folks blow up over little things when you don’t know the whole story of how their day/days have gone. Always think it could have been worse or someone has it worse and I just carry on then.

Glad you didn’t lose any teeth. Did you see my post where the guy burnt the power pole down? Left out about all the fence posts he burned. When it rains it pours.

There are days like that for sure. Like you said it could have been a lot worse. As I age, I catch myself taking some short cuts every now and then. When I do I stop and take all the time I need to make sure it is the safest and best way to do the task.
Sometimes I have asked myself at the end of the day did I do thing the safe way or did I just get lucky again.
Heal up quick there Brother.

What do you mean by your clutch going out? I can't believe that any of today's Stihl dealers would have a clutch for a 390 since it is that same clutch for many models of Stihl saws and 70 bucks seems high. Was it for a complete clutch assembly and sprocket? It ended up being the sprocket that wore through ate up a new chain pretty quick. The dealer probably had the part in stock the parts guy just was not willing to make the effort to find one. You would think if the place was getting out of the saw parts he’d trip over himself selling parts if he could. Something about the manager had to look them up is was rather bizarre or I missed something. I looked up the part numbers myself that I need so I have the numbers so he can check inventory from his stool. LOL
