In the past I have spray painted my DPs, but came off the first coon caught. Has anyone ever dipped there DP in some sort of dip or dye?

I wax mine so they will at least fire when it’s freezing and also to protect them from rusting over time.
That’s all I do to all of my traps now and they are holding up very well for quite a few seasons without dyeing just waxing. Got a lot of coyote and cat footholds that still look like new just waxing too.

Money cannot buy you happiness, but it can buy you a trapping license and that's pretty close.

No BS has a coating that's almost as tough as powdercoating. Give Kendal a call and see what he has to offer. You can still wax them if you feel the need to.

Catch enough coons and they’ll have them shiny new, lol. I don’t do anything to DP’s except set them and hope they don’t get run over. I bill $25 for each DP destroyed.
I found a DP I left one year and it was pure rust but was still able to set it. After about the 4th coon it wasn’t rusty anymore.

My DPs get abused I really don't put any thought into them like my other traps. I trap in mud, brackish water, pine woods acid soil....The best thing I found for mine is to let a trap catch a couple of coons and get the factory finish worn off and a little rust on it. I then pressure wash and dry. I dip them in 50/50 acetone and rust metal primer, let dry for a day or two and do it again. This is about the only thing that last on my DPs. Its stays on the traps.

Mine are zinc coated so all they ever need is washed.

My factory coated white Ztraps are still white...after dozens of coons caught per trap.

Must be some other brand. Mine are EZ Traps and they are still just fine, several years old.

I'm thinking about taking in a pet coon and feed him up primarily with unset, honey soaked DPs during the off season.

Could I speed dip them or would that gum up the trigger?

Yes, just mix it thin. The instructions say to mix it 4 to 1, but 6 to 1 is the way to go.

I've taken to just using spray paint. I like a tan color because it blends well with the dead grass/weeds. Like said above, just paint them again in the spring when needed.

I have a pressure washer, but I kind of miss my old pet coon from years ago. Let him do all the work smile
