yotetrapper30 I agree with what you said . How many times can you talk about how to make a dirt hole or mod a trap or put fur up. I mean not much new is there? If you are a new trapper the archives are full of good advice.

A lot has to do with the markets as to interest in what species is hot at the time that brings in new trappers with that. A lot of the flavor of the month guys generates excitement for a short time and move on, few people become lifelong trappers.

Some folks trap for weeks some for months even years but move on just the way it works out people looking for their passion in life. Some guys are the 12 Karate lesson guys sign up for 12 lessons take 3 lessons and move on some earn their belts.

I think that's a big part of it. I still kill coons, opossums, skunks and coyotes on my farm, because they are a nuisance, but I don't go anywhere else to do it. I donate catches to Wilmington College or toss them in the manure pile. I haven't put up or sold fur in years. I would lose money doing it.

I miss trapping otters in Mississippi, but I don't miss skinning otter feet.

I should have taken a picture of the moose leg I caught in a wolf snare that a wolverine was trying to carry off to cache at that wolf kill. The wolverine must have been mighty confused about why he couldn't get that leg untangled from the brush. He sure screwed up a good snare trying to keep his leg.

You don't see stuff like this posted on here every day. smile

I disagree with your last sentence simply due to the fact that it's the exact opposite of the spirit in which this website was created, which was to help new trappers prosper.

It's fine to let a new trapper know there is a lot of info in the archives, but I also wholeheartedly believe it is our DUTY as more experienced trappers to at least give an effort to answer their "which set is best" questions.

My post was in reference to why I personally don't post new trapping related posts.... I just have nothing new to add.

Yes Dirt. I would have much rather seen that post than your normal copy and pastes with no added context.

Snares and cages unless they approve a steel trap permit...then submerged BGs and laminated or offset, or padded footholds allowed.
