I have used metal conduit for earth anchors and for under ice 330 beaver bait poles and am about to try them as a stake for a 220 size BG. I glanced at a No BS chain drowner once that had them and thought it (EMT stake) had merit for an old man like me. Has anyone tried them as stakes and had luck and reliability for fastening their traps ?....................... the mike

These are 20" of 1/2" conduit. They hold better than the same length 1/2" rebar stakes in water. They are not tough enough to drive into to hard dry ground.

These are what I use on beaver snares at the water's edge. They hold awesome, and no welding.

How did you use the conduit for a beaver bait pole? The shiny metal being the eye catcher or attached bait to it?

Thanks ADC, I knew you had tried it with success but couldn't recover your picture. Shakey - I put a BG bracket with an adjustable holder for a 330 size on and use a 3" #10/24 stove bolt attached to the bracket to impale an ear of corn on. Slide the bracket to the desired depth and set the trap. In our beaver colonies I get a lot of 'rats which were welcome in the past but not so much welcome now. Kind of like cleaning out the opossums before the coyotes.Savvy?..................................... the mike

I have a bunch like in ADCs pic by the crates.
The weak link (not too weak) is where cable
attaches to EMT, as tested with tractor pull.
Some sets I used multiple seasons got doubled
and reused/left.
Never a problem.
Used a heavy j-hook to attach trap.

What do you use to drive those anchors?

Piece of 1/2" rod with a T Top and a piece of conduit the same size as the stakes, bolted or welded to it so it only enters the stake 1 1/2".

Great idea. So the anchor is about 4" long? Should the hole for the cable be a little closer to the crimped end?

I was planning to try Goldy's idea of using a pogo for the deep water end of drowning cable when far from the truck.

These seem easier to make.

You can make them any length you want, 4" is good and I aim for the center with the hole for the cable. Don't complicate it, its easy as it looks and doesn't need to be precise. You can get a 10' section of the conduit for under $6 and it'll make 2 1/2 - 3 dozen of them. They can be used over and over if you can pull them, which usually ain't easy but it can be done.

Thanks!!!!

I will be making some.

A while ago Goldy said he sometimes used pogos on the deep end of drowning cable. He uses a single wrap of 16 ga wire between the anchor cable and the drowning cable. If the anchor does not come out the wire will break.

Might try this with the EMT stakes. They seem easier to make.
