I am developing a design for a kit similar to a PIT kit for the MB-650 that would change the pivot point of the pan and fix the high tension “dead spot” issue, and I’d love to see someone produce it. Gonna talk to Ed at PIT, but he’s getting on up there in years. Alternatively, if anyone can point me in the direction of folks who can accurately stamp, bend, and drill parts without requiring 5-figure minimum orders that could be an option too, or if this sounds like something you want to collaborate on, holler at me.

I’d definitely buy some to play around with. I get really inconsistent pan tension on the 650’s and not having to mess with pan tension would be a plus. It’s one of the biggest reasons I like the MB 550’s and wish the Duke 650’s were legal in PA. What pan tension are you getting with the PIT pan in the 650?

Yeah the Duke 650s aren’t legal here either- we have to measure at the hinge and they are too long there. I just do not generally like traditional dogs. I much prefer the latch system on the MB-650, and I like that both jaws are locked down- which a lot of guys hate.

Like a lot of Ed’s PIT pans when put on powerful 4x4 traps, the tension on this pan is too stiff at first, but you can then dial it right in to whatever you want by filing slope into the trigger notch- which admittedly is a pain on the 650 unless you remove the trigger rod.

1the problem with the mb650 tension inconsistency comes from the pan bolt binding up. bit of a pain but can be fixed

I agree 100%. And I have wondered how many folks that have that issue don’t wax their traps.

Only thing I’ve ever used on my 650’s is dye and wax.
