I buddy of mine bought an old house and was cleaning out an old bard. He found this trap. I have not seen it, he sent me these pictures and measurements. Spring to spring is close to 24 inches. Width of springs, (not jaw spread) is 9 inches.

Pictures are not great but does anyone know what type of trap this is?

Hand forged. Look on the trap maybe on the base for any markings

Without a name or stamp it will be impossible to identify. Every town had a village blacksmith and a lot of them were capable of making traps. Most were heavy and not refined but this trap has a great profile and symmetry. The design of the pan post the way it is forged off the cross piece is indicative of the area it was found. Research on local blacksmiths may reveal a clue but nothing concrete.

Looks like an old trade trap.
