Got a call this morning. Finally after 14 days got a devil dog tied up next to a pee post. A little while later a picture comes through on my phone of another in a snare, another first for me. My wife's friend is happy, as am I. I tossed the one from the snare as it had a pretty good gash in its side. The other I took the time to skin out all its toes. I didn't d the tail last and what a bummer, there is mange down the tail. I got it home and started fleshi g it but after just a few strokes, a hole. Of course. Cockle burrs. So I whipped out the pressure washer. .next was to remove the burrs. After about 5 I stopped and looked it over. There are dozens and dozens, and I found more mange. I'm going to can it. Not worth any more effort and I'm upset already that I wasted as much time as I did. Free time is non existant for me. Should have been Sheetrocking my house, but even given the days events, it's still an adventure. Last weekend of duck season, but I'm typing this as I sit in a half finish house, so the ducks shall be spared. They were both pale, not like the ones around my house. I'm bummed the hide is in the condition it's in, but I did learn something. Don't trap near the river. The hides from around my house are very clean.

Congratulations on catching the double.
No wasted time there for the lessons learned. 1) ALWAYS brush your fur before fleshing to remove burrs, mud etc.... 2) When brushing you'll see the mange 3) Patience pays off when trapping

That's awesome, Now you've broke the ice set a new goal for a triple thanks for sharing That's my next goal. I set 5 more in that trail each 20' apart or so. Little chicken giblets tucked here and there between them. Re baited the other sets. By law my check schedule is every 4 days, but it's nice having eyes on them so nothing sits longer than necessary. After I dug a one ounce nugget, I'd go detecting and say the goal is a two ouncer, but I'll settle for a 1 pounder.

Congratulations. Too bad they had mange but you did get them out of there.
Adding bait on the trail isn't the best idea. You want them traveling the trail at a normal pace not putting their nose to the ground.
United we stand,divided we fall.

The lady was butchering a couple roosters and offered me the carcass, so I used some of it. She has lost all compassion for the predators around her place and has developed a disdain for them. If I get good at this I can offer my services to compliment my wife's chicken business. Sell chicks, chicks get eaten, people buy more chicks.... It happens a lot.

Kind of how it goes, all's fair in love and war.. nothing changes attitudes faster than reality.
