My raccoon pelt looks greasy! It’s been a week since I fleshed it. Is this normal? It doesn’t stink. But I’ve had to wipe it down.

Post a pic of the skin.
If there are white patches on it,it may need a little attention for it to dry properly.

It’s outside in the “yurt” and it’s dark. I don’t have white patches but it’s light brown skin and def drying but it just looks greasy to me. Not pretty like put up furs I’ve seen!

Coons are greasy critters and will "sweat" for quite a while sometimes. It will look less greasy as it dries further. Continue to wipe it down once in a while.

Use an old towel and wipe the leather side down. They are greasy so they will sweat oil for a while. Like said earlier if there is white spots on the hide shave them off and let dry s little while longer.

Normal for coon to look wet or greasy. Wipe them down with an old rag. A fan runnin helps also.

On MTP website at the top of this page look at their fur handling tools and find the fleshing tool. I use one of those to scrape the skin with after it’s been boarded. You’ll be shocked at how much liquid goo you will get off a scraped hide. Coon, beaver and otter all will benefit from that and dry faster. The skin will also look nicer.
