Heard a local radio news clip regarding powder.
Interviewing a local gun dealer.
Said that 75% of the nitro cellulose used to make the powder comes from chi-na, and they have halted export of it to the US.
Powder will soon be scarce, and subsequently quite expensive ...... IF you can even find it.
Store owner suggested stocking up. Also said he didn't necessarily recommend 50 lbs. in every basement, but did say to get what you think you might need for a few years.
Is this old news ? if so, sorry.
If not ....... take heed. Ya know that no one here will likely be allowed to fill the void.
Cheers

Sort of interesting Dan. I don't see mention of percentages tho. Some of them are just distributors.
Many applications for the stuff, and likely grades specific for gun powder ... I dunno.
Might learn more about it later.
The last pound of IMR-4350 I bought was $ 9.95. Still have the last can with the price still on it.
Thanks

Made me nervous. Bought 20 + pounds last night and I've never reloaded a single load in my life

Dont forget primers bullets and brass, the home made primers and cast rifle bullets leave a lot to be desired. Lots of people make home made black powder. Cast bullets work with bp. Doesnt take much to light it. You cant get much velocity anyway. Brass in hi powers, even when you anneal it, wont last forever.

Got to wonder how much is hype to help keep the prices inflated.

O lord all the old guys with disposable income and already existing stock piles that can last decades are about to go clean the shelves smirk laugh

Seriously though that crap is kinda irritating. Nothing like talking to someone who has a 20yr stock pile talking about how they buy up even they can since their retired....like bro...

Good question Pete. Prices are getting ridiculous though. Ammo inflation is worse even than gas inflation. You still can't walk into the local gun shop, tell him to order whatever your looking for, and get it in just a few days.

Old guy checking it.
I DID finally manage to use up my massive stockpile of $79/10,000 primers, yes ,TEN THOUSAND primers.

Now, I'm into my stash of $20/1000 primers, that I thought, " Wow, this is crazy high!" when I bought them!

In all do respect, I had more disposable income when I was single with no kids though I wasn't as good as prioritizing it.

I'll tell u what if in 5 years it wasn't a wise to decision to stock up while it was available I'll give u a pound of powder.

I wouldn't call 20 pounds a "stockpile" anyway. Takes a pound to load 100 300 winmag. 3/4 pound to load 270. How long does it take to shoot 100 rounds? Afternoon playing with a rifle? If your not going to "waste" ammo shooting with your family and friends, just hunt and shoot animals that need killing, 20 pounds is a good cushion. If your talking AR type rifle 20 pounds is about 4000 rounds. How long will it take to go through that many if you like to shoot? My grandkids will go through 2-300 in an afternoon with me telling them thats enough.

Large Rifle or Large Rifle Magnum? I’m in Alaska and can go buy bricks of 1000 LR right now. They’re just sitting on shelves. LRM on the other hand have not been on the shelf in over 3 years.

I would be careful advertising what you have on the interwebs. Never know when the alphabet boys are watching and when they might arrest you because you read an article on the January 6th “insurrection”.

You got a decent job now with this new tug boat gig, got some disposable income. How many primers you got stockpiled WD? I bet you just buy them 100 at a time so as not to appear selfish. Right? So, how many?
How much powder?

I checked cabelas today. Guy said they had some a couple days ago. I don't go to Buffalo often and stop there

I haven’t seen a Federal 210M primer on a shelf anywhere since 2018-19, somewhere in there.

And when they come online somewhere they’re always gone by the time I find out about it.

I don’t “need” any. But I’d sure buy some if I could find them (and preferably not at $150-160 a brick).
