Figured this could be a one stop thread for the slithering type. Prevention, traps, repellent, process, tips, methodology and so on.

Snakes have been a large part of my income over the years.

Repellents, don't waste your time or swindle your customers.

Prevention, simple. Deny them everything. Snakes sum up everything we do as NWCOs. Do away with foodsource, do away with any sort of shelter or access and the problem is solved.

Further, it is the ultimate opportunity to educate your client because denial of everything is rarely possible. So educate, educate, educate, educate and create the conditions to ease the issue.

Trapping, rarely effective. Often requires specific circumstances to be successful. And in many cases should be made illegal, speaking of glueboards.

I keep several snake traps around my house every summer. I usually catch several copperheads, a couple of Eastern Coachwhip snakes, and numeous Black racers each year. When I was operating as a NWCO for about twenty five years I caught more than two hundred Eastern Diamond rattlesnakes (never caught one over 5 feet 8 inches long), about 50 Timber rattlesnakes, and a few cotten mouths. I posted pictures of many of them on this forum. What I considered my best catch was when I set a snake trap over a Gopher Tortoise hole and caught 18 newly born Eastern Diamondback rattlesnakes. Many of these pictures are probably still available on the forum.

So, yes I consider snake traps a useful tool.

They absolutely can be but they can also be indiscriminate killers as well. Particularly glue boards.

But the same could be said of all our cage traps as well.

I moved to East Texas 9 years ago and my yard was full of snakes. I removed all the bushes and flower beds around the house. Not one on the property. Not only did the snakes disappear my neighbors think i am the smartest guy in the community. I have less yard work to interfere with hobbies and when the polar vortex freezes the place I don't have to buy or plant new bushes.

Anything the governments gives you they must first take away from someone else.
