I’m having some serious trouble with bobcats. I originally set some footholds out trying to catch coyotes and was getting a ton of bob cats on camera so I changed a couple of my traps to cubby sets. Well I’ve got cats walking right by my wing hanging in the tree and they didn’t think twice about investigating my cubby with feathers everywhere and some cavens bait. I haven’t used any gland lure or bobcat pee, not sure it matters but any help would be greatly appreciated

In Georgia? Keep same sets and change lures or bait. I can’t keep cats out of my coyote sets. Never made a cubby either. Are you catching coyotes?

I’m attempting too😅, I’m new to the predator trapping if I’m being honest. I’ve caught a fox in a cage trap but other than that just coons and opossums. I was getting a ton of pictures of yotes in deer season and I’ve always loved trapping so I decided to try it but I’m no longer getting any on camera. I’m getting a ton of bobcats on cam though. Only had one night pass without one or two on my cameras. Should I try new bait or go with a gland lure etc?

Knowing where the cats are walking is half the battle. Put in a blind set or two where they are traveling. Cats can guide pretty tight without refusals. Exposed pan sets work also as it works on the cats natural curiosity.

I’m in young pines that were clear cut 6 or 7 years ago, all the pictures I’m getting are on four wheeler sized lanes so I think a walk through set may be doable. Maybe I can brush one side in and only give them a small area to walk and hope he hits the pan!

I'm having really good luck with just Jameson serria mist and feline fix, I think Dobbins makes it. Got 5 this year 3 within the last week.

There's shouldn't be any hoping a cat hits the pan. As stated above cats can be very heavily blocked. You should block and guide it so there's only ONE place for it to step.

So block the lane completely off with only one spot to step through? I know you can guide them but I didn’t think you could to that extent

… that and get some skunky lure and a cat gland based at your other sets… give them appearance that something’s alive but hidden (a hole.. nest.. etc..).. you want to make them put down some tracks at coyote/ cat combo sets

… cats ain’t as cold nosed as they’re made out to be

.. also wouldn’t hurt to get yourself a felt hat and take up drinking

I’m gonna need something, just checked my camera and to make matters worse had one walk 5 yards from my set and never show it any attention. It’s driving me nuts to know they’re right there and aren’t even checking it out

… they ain’t interested in your dead bait … cut the top out of one of those saplings… neck them down to one side of the trail.., put a skunky lure and a gland base lure on either side of your trap with some feathers tucked in the tip of that bough … if you don’t catch one then… go to church more often

The guys way up north get along well with cubbies, but I do a lot better if I can set the trap right where they would likely step anyway, box it in heavily, and make it a walk thru.

Savell is right- a gland lure with some skunky will pile up the cats.

Try something skunky, or castor maybe? Meant to be a question for some of these experts (cuz I am NOT one).

Not just one place to through but u got to make sure the pan is the only spot they can ste on when they go through. Cats like tight spots

Get rid of the camera!

So cats are more interested in a possible wounded animal rather than a nasty bait in a hole like a coyote? Like I said I’m new and I’ve just been using a cavens bait that smells horrendous. I did use some feathers but it didn’t seem to do the trick

.. I rarely use bait for anything

… predators…. Cats especially, enjoy killing things

.. I put a post in here awhile back with some good tips for sets and locations on what you’re trying to do.. of course there’s a bunch of nonsense in it too … if it still exists I’ll link in here for you
