No selling early for southern trappers, they have to wait till the end of season to find out what they caught is worth. Imagine the southern trapper association auction's will be over ran with green beaver and by then they should be back down to their normal 4.00 top price, hope i can attend one just to watch the cussing going on lol.

Does everybody still figure beaver prices will start to fizzle out this season? Just wondering because I'm hearing from multiple sources that FHA's agents are not collecting near as many beaver as they had hoped for and demand red hot.

I'm a little jealous of the Metis.

Trap replacement, 25% fur subsidy.....

The movie Oppenheimer has the younger generation wanting to source the hats worn in the movie. Those are beaver felt fedoras.

I’m hearing it’s going to be stable for now, but buyers are cautious. Many are processing and selling as fast as possible just in case. April/May might be a different story depending on the spring trapping conditions and catch. I’d have them moved by late March. May be all rumor mill though lol.

I'm betting that beaver will advance on the first FHA sale in March. Not enough beaver in the pipeline to satisfy demand.

I'm in a bad spot for that. Got no agent closer than Wyoming. Shipping costs are prohibitive on big quantities so I'm not sure what I'll do. Been in discussions with FHA about it.

FHA is good bunch to work with-they are all trappers.
Our fur pick up here is in a couple days(last recieving date).
I will be going by N Bay near the end of the month and asked if I dropped off my fur would they get it on the upcoming sale.
They said no problem If I drop it off.
Gives me a couple more weeks to get more fur put up.

To do that at the auction I would have needed to do $41.61 cdn or $30.79 US average between the 11% comission $3.89 per skin, shipping .44 per beaver and we pay a $2.00 royalty per skin.
Plus a weeks work to put them up.
$35.38 CDN
$25.90 US in my pocket

You did well Jim.

I'm hearing FHA predicts the beaver market will advance, have you been hearing the same?
