This season I will begin the learning process of tanning hides to hopefully make convention and rendevous crafts and novelties. I have been and continue to watch youtube videos to learn the principles. I realize this next question is going to be very subjective but here goes. Do any experienced trappers/tanners have advice or recommendations of resources that will help with the learning curve? By the way, I have been trapping for about 5 years and the fur market just isn't trapper friendly in the southeast. It's time to learn a new skill set for the future.

Trubond has a great instructional pamphlet you can get online, it details step by step the process for tanning your own furs. I would read and learn that as many of the steps are the same among many different tanning products. Trubond Tanning Instructions

When learning how to tan, make sure you record everything you do,all the way from rehydration to final cleaning of the fur and buffing of the leather and everything in between,so when, after many attempts and adjustments, you get one that is right you can repeat it.

Forget that fear of gravity-get a little savagery in your life.

Go check out Pro1 Performance Chemicals website. This is where I learned the process. They explain everything very well.
