I spread my dry dirt out on a sheet of plywood about 2 inches deep, then sprinkle the flake wax over it like a dusting of snow. I then cover the dirt with clear plastic in sunny weather and the sun melts the wax into the dirt. I uncover it,fluff it up a bit and add more wax for an hour or so (covered).
after that i break up any clumps that have developed and seal it up in plastic sheetrock pails that have been cleaned and dried.
works for me!

Only real difference for me is that I mix all the wax and the dirt before putting on a piece of plywood. My plywood is on two sawhorses. It seemed to melt faster there than on the ground. I mix it when the top looks wet. After placing in a bucket, I stir it several times as it cools.

Make sure your dirt is dry to start with. I spread mine out about 2" deep on a folding table on a black tarp or plastic. I mix in the wax throughout the dirt and then sprinkle a dusting on top of the dirt. I cover with clear plastic using a piece of wood to tent it up and let it bake in the sun. I mix it up 3-4 times while its cooling when the sun goes down. If you dont it will cool into a block of waxed dirt. Then I start the process all over for the next day. After a week I have enough for the season for what I do. Here is a pic of my setup.

After the dirt is good and dry, we make ours in a double boiler on a gas stove.

I use a cement mixer and a torpedo heater. Only takes a few minutes to make up a batch in the summer.

I favor a crockpot. I use pre-sifted dirt a combination of 1/2 peat and 1/2 local top soil.

Leave the lid off and the dirt will dry quite well. Once dry I just stir in flake wax until dirt is well coated.

Waxed dirt is then just dumped in a clean 5 gallon pail and broken up a little by hand after it cools.
