Anybody know what the 3N dimensions are inside jaw to inside jaw and inside hinge post to inside hinge post?

Yeah, argue with Wissmiss about traps, the history of them and how they were configured. She has forgotten more about trap than most of us will ever know.

I have nothing clever to put here.

I worked with Pete Askins at the FTA Trappers College for 14 years in Class #4. Pete was head of research and development for Woodstream for several decades.
He went to work one day, and a dozer was piling their building with everything in it for dump trucks. Woodstream made no indications they were closing the trap section of the corporation. All records, most prototypes and a lifetime of work went to the dump.

I also find it very interesting I never owed a trap like what is being discussed But the details and the reasons for the various models show that there was a real amount of thought going on concerning animal welfare and also a genuine attempt to create a trap the meet the trappers needs .Roy That must have been a very interesting time working with Pete Askins If I recall Pete would be a regular at may trapping conventions in the PA area And he was not just an employee of Woodstream He was a very good trapper And knew his stuff about many things related to traps and trapping It is a very sad thing that they closed their factory in that manner But thanks for the info And please add to it if you can By the way the trap pictured with the kink less chain looks like it was from a different time zone It was something that was way ahead of it's time More along the lines of some of the up to date mods that can be seen on threads on today's modern day artist and skilled geniuses that make some really nice traps

It was an honor to work with Pete! We still talk on a regular basis. I attended the FTA College in 1999 the first time. Made the second trip in 2001.
After arriving for the second trip Charlie Park told me to put my stuff in the instructor's dorm. I started working with Pete and MR Red Edgmon'd that year.
Red passed away before the next year's class, so Pete and I handled things. After 14 years together Pete retired, and I took over the class with Dave Hastings.
My back and knees came to the point I had to make an extremely difficult decision. I could no longer provide the service I emphasized for the students so it was time to resign.
I started trapping in 1964 and to this day the 3N is my go-to coyote trap.

I have some of those 3ns they have never been set. I think I paid $7.00 apiece for them.

Questions-
Why the 30" chain? Did Coyote men prefer a long chain?

What is the value of a Victor 3N? (no government stampings)
