If you look at the profile of the two styles, the reversed jaw end traps have a lower profile than the standard jaws.
Pics here show that difference. I never noticed it to be that much lower, and subsequently wider. Also, the levers come up a bit higher on the standard ...... naturally. How common were OS's in the day ?

I've sold tons of number 2's over the past 10 years, can't say I noticed much of a price differential. I am surprised they only made them a couple years, I ran found and purchased lots of them.
I got myself a seniors' GPS. Not only does it tell me how to get to my destination, it tells me why I wanted to go there.
