A dollar a swivel? Where are you buying them?
MTP Crunch proof swivels are about $42 per 100!
Heavy 6 gauge J hooks are $12 per hundred.

I have to agree I lost 2 coyotes last year due to split ring failures. The rings appear to be weaker than ones I had used in the past. Two might not sound like a lot of failures but works out to be almost 10%. I started using quick links and no more failures.

I use mine for everything but coyotes now and do not have a problem.

Jerry Morris and the others are absolutely correct. If you catch very many coyotes using split rings, you are going to have some failures. At first I thought it was just a fluke, but when I started getting 2 or 3 "flukes" a season, I knew it was not. I got rid of them, and went to 3/16 quik-links. Have never had a failure with them, and they are just as convenient as split rings. Ray.
