unsure if you're refereing to just the red meat or along with the "AROMA" ... ??? ... if with ... I think that lil tidbit is credible info as I feel the skunkyness is part of the draw when it comes to catching incidental otter in dryland predator sets ... or at least a one of the many variables \:\)

I use alot of skunk quil in all my call lures and have caught otter on it as well. Now wouldnt it be nice to have a bait and lure that would make a good set on dry land for otter. As i know for a fact they have no problems navigating large tracks of timber. Or large open fields. Just need to figure out the whys and what are they after.

With the skunk, it doesn't seem to matter. I have used whole carcasses and just chunks of meat with equal results. I will often whack an otter in a conibear immediately after catching a skunk so a "touch" of stinky doesn't hurt anything.

As i see it now its got to have mink glands, muskrat glands, skunk quill, beaver castor, And for the meat base a combination beaver, mink, muskrat and skunk. Add enough glycerin for a good mix and sodium benzowait for stability and i think we might be in business!

One of the best lures for otter is toilet materials from an otter toilet. Those little piles of grass, leaves, dirt, etc that have been urinated and rolled on. I know of a trapper that would soak little tags of carpeting in otter urine and use those to get otter into cage traps for his ADC work on docks. He used to catch 100+ per year this way.

Having said all this...I insist that blind setting is the real trick for otter, as lures have always produced inconsistant results for me. A squeaker will help get otter up a trail from the water's edge as well. But has to be set far enough back (6 feet or more) as they won't come right up to it like a coon will. They seem to just want to eye ball it and will approach raised up on their haunches.

My fear of moving stairs is escalating!
