I was going to say maybe something with mink as they are a smaller competetor and that would strike up territorial instincts.

Might be onto something with the mink idea. Was following some mink tracks one fine day.I saw where he was travelling so I wanted to see what the tracks would reveal. It rounded the corner and ran into 2 otter, all what was left of the mink was a smear on the snow.Only saw this once mind you so draw your own conclusions whether it happens often. They might be inclined to have a sniff to see what the mink has been up to and how recently Dan'l

Never had a chance to use lenon's Otter Super All Call on Otter. I know it is a good canine lure.

I should really keep this to myself, but................try skunk meat tossed into artificial burrow holes along steam banks. unsure if you're refereing to just the red meat or along with the "AROMA" ... ??? ... if with ... I think that lil tidbit is credible info as I feel the skunkyness is part of the draw when it comes to catching incidental otter in dryland predator sets ... or at least a one of the many variables

One of the best lures for otter is toilet materials from an otter toilet. Those little piles of grass, leaves, dirt, etc that have been urinated and rolled on. I know of a trapper that would soak little tags of carpeting in otter urine and use those to get otter into cage traps for his ADC work on docks. He used to catch 100+ per year this way.
Having said all this...I insist that blind setting is the real trick for otter, as lures have always produced inconsistant results for me. A squeaker will help get otter up a trail from the water's edge as well. But has to be set far enough back (6 feet or more) as they won't come right up to it like a coon will. They seem to just want to eye ball it and will approach raised up on their haunches.
My fear of moving stairs is escalating!
