too much if you just want a knock around 22 or a shooter
if you like old target guns or really like aperture sights 22s then it seems about fair , I would offer 200 and see what they say around here htey all have a book with the lowest they will take you figure a little low let them tell their minimum and you work in the price of buying a new magazine for 20 on munrich
if your looking for a shooter only a new savage

that generation of 1940-1970 magazine fed bolt it is not uncommon to have a last round feed issue fixed by a new mag with a stiff spring.
you can also get a new firing pin , but they look to be out of main springs if that seems weak you would likely have to cut one down from a similar size.

Am I the only one who thinks when these old guns show up in a pawn shop they are missing from some lowlife's grandpa's closet? Nothing you can do about that now WD if you like it, buy it. Started to say grandpa? But then I remembered, nevermind.

there are a bunch of old guys selling off a gun here or a gun there to make rent at a local gun store with a consignment rack
it may honestly have been the old guy selling it , has a closet full he goes to the shop with a gun every month or so as he needs cash.
I bought a 22 an old guy brought in , probably the only time I didn't try for a lower price. I knew the guy behind the counter and he told me the story guy though 65 was fair of course he was thinking 1980 money not 2010 money, John told him lets put 100 on it and give it a week. I gave him the hundred for it an older marlin when I shot it I realized why he probably thought it was worth less , the barrel was leaded up and it shot a pattern till I scrubbed the bore with copper chore-boy , the trigger isn't great but it shoots decent groups now.
there are also people who legitimately inherit guns and don't want them odd as it seems.
the resale shops typically have to check the stolen registry and keep it for a while till it is deemed clear , at least in some states.
if an FFL is selling it to you , then you have a clean bill of sale and you are free of any liability.

the ruger American is a nice gun they shoot fine and take 10/22 mags they tend to run about 329 and work well a major plus is they carry well with no magazine poling you in the hand
I was stating that if a person is in the market for a budget knock about gun as far as new goes dollar for group size a Savage MKII F is very hard to beat. at 209-229 and it is very hard to outshoot one they seem to group very well with a number of different ammo options.
I think we paid 215 for my sons MKII-FV a few years ago it is the heavy barrel version of the MKII great shooter
it even shot thunderbolts into a group that could be covered by a Nickle at 25 yards , some of the ammo a group of 10 could be covered by a dime at 25 yards when I was testing ammo types
with the FV with the preferred ammo on a warm day a white target with horse flies landing on it is a treat , you win if you can leave a splat around the hole
