On water sets for your little La. coons I'll bet 1/2" or 3/4" PVC cut 2-3" long with 14 ga wire would work just fine. Put the wire through a hole in the center and drive it in on a driver made to fit just inside the pipe.

If you could drive it in without it splitting or breaking, I'm sure it would work just fine. Not even a coyote would pull a cable out of a schedule 40 pipe, and the pipe itself isn't going to come out of the ground any easier than conduit would. Problem I see is if it splits or breaks below ground level, you might not know it until the cable is worked back and forth for awhile, and then it might come out.

Pogo all the way....I caught 3 beaver, one otter, and two coyote in coon sets this year and had no pullouts with pogos on 18" of 3/32. Works for me and is cheap alternative to rebar, berks or other earth anchors. I tried the conduit anchors, and they work great, but I can make the pogos for the close to the same money and have a better anchor in the end.
