Quick question what is the best way to clean up old traps/pans? Got a few traps I would like to see if I can read the pan a little better but I know there are certain do's and don'ts.

An old toothbrush and a shot (or two) of WD40. That might clean the pan without decreasing the traps value.

Some pans were lightly stamped and some are so badly worn/rusted that you will never be able to read them no matter how much you try.

Collector traps should never be cleaned to bare metal. It decreases the value.

That depends on the collector. I use white vinegar to clean the user traps I buy and sell. I prefer not to use vinegar on collector traps. But have been known to bend/break that rule once in a while.

When you say “been known to break that rule”. Is there an instance to break the rule?

I use PB Blaster on my collector traps, it doesn't evaporate like WD-40
