The original frank conibear design was severely flawed until beav stepped in with his ideas to improve it.....OK, OK, I quit....lord I apologize.

takes a good idea to come up with a better idea I think Mr. Conibear would be proud of the improvments (killbars Canadian bend humped jaws) and trappers constant tweaking of triggers to make a successful trap better and that its not called a Beavibear

I don't any of the story behind Coni-bears. But I can see why RBG's work better. Please explain. Especially with respect to the bottom edge set.

played with RBG's and didn't care for them.i think they would be a lot more popular if they were any better. heck,i think Beav had some input into the first deadfalls used.

As I state over on the 550 thread. I have an old article that Frank Conibear wrote of his beaver trapping in the NWT when he went out on winter/ spring, the mileage they travelled was increadable on foot.( in a Canadian Fur /Fin/ feather magazine) Often wonder what he got paid for the article, he did mention his returns for the seasons travel, but I put the article away and memory well.....don't put it out there if not printed fact.

The rotating jaw trap that Conibear developed and ATC engineers improved the trigger system for was surely one of the great advancements in trap development and the new traps made pretty good trappers, especially for beaver, out of some folks who previously were not good. However, the concept of rotating jaw traps dates at least back to the Bigelow traps that were produced from 1925 on. Many killer type traps preceded the "Conibears" but they mostly all suffered from the same problem with poor triggering systems.

I never heard that.I spoke to trappers who knew him, like Ralph Bice, and never heard anyone say that.I don't believe he ever said anything that was not true about footholds, compared to bodygrips. All trappers know that a live animal has more chance to escape a trap than a dead one. That was probably BS spread by jealousy,or Antis
