What do you prefer most: Trap shooting, skeet, or sporting clays?
The youth programs in Wi are shining with success after these programs continue to flourish in high school sports programs across the state.

Trap.
I know it doesn't offer the variety of skeet, or clays, but, a great way to keep the skills sharp. The wife and I shoot on one league, and practice at a couple other ranges.
BTW the Minnesota high school trap competition was born at one of those ranges, The Plymouth Trap Club, a few steps away from the Wayzata High School.
Trap is great to attract women and kids to the shooting sports.

I really came to enjoy sporting clays back when my daughter was competing in Y.H.E.C. which is a great program.

Skeet is my vice. I could shoot it all day if someone else was paying ! I used to work with some hardcore skeet shooters. Twenty-five years ago and I still remember Wayne Mayes name. It's all they ever talked about. Adultery and skeet were the primary drivers of divorce in those days.

Sporting Clays (1) You're always moving, never sitting around waiting for your turn. (2) Every station is different - always a new challenge (3) I can compete against only myself or a group of friends who are walking the route with me.

I like skeet. I think it's good practice for grouse hunting. The closest thing I've ever been to a skeet range is a mechanical thrower in a gravel pit. It helps. I was a pretty fearsome shot on grouse back in the day when my eyesight and reflexes were closer to their peak. Not so much nowadays.

Skeet is my vice. I could shoot it all day if someone else was paying ! Trap is like watching paint dry LOL.When I was realy into shooting skeet,I shot 1000 rounds a week.Once a year one of the clubs I was a member of would have a shoot off between the skeet shooters and he trap shooters. We all would shoot one round of each, then tally up the total scores.Us skeet shooters always crushed the trap shooters. We could hit trap targets all day long, but the trap shooters had problems hitting our angled skeet birds.

I miss good doubles action. Osky

I was taught when skeet shooting to keep the gun moving even as the trigger is pulled. Swing the gun from behind the pigeon and pulling the trigger as the gun is pointed at the clay bird. The swing continuing as the gun fires. Never heard of anybody holding the gun still and shooting as it passes by. People who can consistently shoot a perfect score have shot a lot of shotgun shells at them.
Those who would give up essential liberty, to purchase a little temporary safety, deserve neither liberty nor safety. Benjamin Franklin (1706-1790)

I know skeet shooters that have shot skeet so much they can point the gun in one spot for each stand and still shoot a perfect score. Never have to track the skeet at all, the clay flys the same every single time, lol. Then again I love duck hunting with them in a pit because it’s the pits limit, not individuals. They have trouble with anything with feathers, lol. Part of the practice, for me, is shouldering the gun. I start with the gun down, shoulder and shoot. But, I'm not shooting to brag about my score.

I was a pretty fearsome shot on grouse back in the day when my eyesight and reflexes were closer to their peak. Not so much nowadays. Just ride on up to PRESQUE ISLE FISH AND GAME CLUB. They shoot skeet & some trap every Sunday morning. Trap shooting works best for me. Skeet & Sporting are more of a social event compared to a completive event like trap & they are tooooo slow. Most days at a trap shoot we shoot 300 targets. It seems to me that it would take a week to do that with Skeet or Sporting. A year or two ago I went over 500,000 registered trap targets so I do know a little about it. BTW: I live where we had lots of pigeon shoots. Only one club still having them on a regular basis. Back 20 years ago we could shoot them almost any Saturday or Sunday all winter. I don't subscribe to the idea that reflexes slow with age. At 72 I'm still one of the fastest trap shots at a shoot. BTW; I have competed in every Grand American since 1977 & even managed to break a 200 in one of the evens last year.

When I mentioned slow reflexes, I was talking about grouse hunting. I can't get on the birds the way I used to. As you know, you have about three seconds from the time the bird flushes to hear the bird flush, pick it up and get off a shot before it's behind cover. I don't knock them down the way I once did.

For myself, it's sporting clays and 5 stand; followed by skeet. When I completed, glad I didn't have to buy all my shells. Getting expensive today!

they seem to be the hardest target for me and some real practice I instruct 4-H trap and shot 3 rounds this year I should probably get to more shotgun stuff but my son is really into pistol so I go play pistols with him most of the time. I love watching the progression in the kids , we can take them from never having fired a shot to 17-19 of 25 in a night or two , then they have to get the repetition they often spend a bunch of time a very consistent 21-23 which is a solid place to be and then they have to get the mental game together to move up to 24-25 I instruct pistol also again watching their progression in a short time is very cool.

if you watch that news story you will see a bunch of kids running pump guns , yeah a lot of them get into expensive OU but the cool part is we get a bunch of kids that start with grandpas shotgun that was given to them and that gets them started. had one kid come with grandpas old pump gun and in a couple years he had a scholarship to college to shoot clay

I like them all but skeet was my passion for a while.I was shooting 1,000 rounds a week at three different clubs,,and was the Rangemaster at one of them.I reloaded shells two five gallon buckests full at a time.I beat the New York State Skeet shooting Champ in one tournament,,but it was not a "sanctioned" shoot,,so no,I didn't get to be the new ,,"New York State Champ" .

I like trap and sporting clays. But have never shot skeet. Trap does nothing for me but I enjoy sporting clays or at least used to.
I have nothing clever to put here.
