Sent fur to them last year, 8 months later, still no fur. Trying but haven't been able to reach them on the phone, messages not returned.
Anyone else have fur there?

This is my first year using them; they answer the phone any time I call. I recently dropped a handful of hides off to be tanned. They were very helpful answering any questions I had. Are you sure you have the right number?

Yep, shipped in early May with quoted turnaround of 4 to 5 months and it is still not done. Called a few weeks ago to check and never got a live person on the phone but I did get a call back within a couple days after leaving a message. All of my items were done except for one specie and they offered to go ahead and ship what was ready. Of course the items that were not ready are the ones I needed sooner than later. To me, it seems like they have become a victim of their own success.....they apparently have more work than they have the capability to handle with the degree of efficiency that I expect.
On the other hand, the order I sent to Moyles on the same day I shipped to GNF, I received back in September and was excellent work as usual. Moyle was a lot slower the previous year but they told you that up front and delivered in the promised time frame.

The reason I decided to try them was reports of faster returns and good quality along with lower shipping costs. I can fully understand being busy, even being overwhelmed with business. What I don't understand is a lack of communication.
I'm sending out a new box early next week and unfortunately I don't see a good reason to send it there.
Thank you Quietbutdeadly for some insight.

Never used them, I stick with Moyles in Idaho, have for years, and they have ups and down as well.
Any one thinking in this day of low pelt prices and with the amount of trapping still going on, as well as half the trappers in this country sending their harvests in to have tanned, that any tannery can be held to a quick turn around is just fooling them selves.
It's not rocket science to realize if there are hundreds more putting pelts into a slow system already, that it would eventually slow to what many consider stopped, LOL, trappers I swear are supposed to be patient people !!
I do agree that the tanneries should have better communication though, this seems to be a regular happenstance with most of them.
Sorry if my opinions or replies offend you, they are not meant to !

I think every year or so it rotates to a different tannery (or two). They have a year when their not overwhelmed and turn around us great. Trappers hear about it and send to them the next season and the get overwhelmed Then the following g year trappers ship somewhere else and so on and so on
Just a theory of course
But the no return on a phone call is frustrating Especially when someone already has half your money and all of your fur
I'm waiting on Tubari, but they are plucking too so I expect it to be longer wait

They did an excellent job on my beavers two years ago, I know things can change, especially with growing a business please make sure you let us know the quality outcome when you get them back

I'm a big supporter of Moyles but tried tried Great Northern for the first time last year for logistical reasons (save on shipping costs). My 84 small beaver have been there since the end of June.
I've talked to a nice lady a couple of times, so they do answer the phone. If you look on their web site, there is a note about the back log situation. Has something to do with labor issues or something like that. Sounds to me like they got too big too fast and couldn't handle the increased volume.
In the mean time, my turnaround at Moyles is 45 days and that is at regular pricing. Not an expedited price.
I'm confident I will eventually get my 84 beaver back. I just hope the quality is useable for my purposes. I'm gonna be plenty upset if I get back junk. So It's cheaper to send fur to WI then It Is to send them to moyles In Idaho where you live?

My guess; wissmiss's " logistical reasons" was Moyles 8-10 month turnaround time. Which is not a current problem, subject to change. Didn't want to pay another 50% to get fur done in time.

The beaver were purchased at the June sale at FHA in Canada. FHA brought them in on one of their trucks to Their Cambridge depot. The ultimate destination is a customer of mine in southern Wisconsin.
So the beaver would travel from Cambridge to Spooner (Great Northern) to southern Wisconsin. Much cheaper than Cambridge to Burley (Idaho) to Moscow (Idaho) to southern Wisconsin.
Make sense??? Does to me. Well you failed to fill us In on the Cambridge thing.
