Have a friend with an absolutely mint Grizzly bear no 6 with cast jaws. Pan says "Grizzly Bear no 6, Pat 1858"

Cast jaws, perfect teeth, etc. Must weigh a hundred pounds.

Any idea on value?

Its a repo made in the 80 and 90s sold by Cabellas, Looks impressive but steer clear. Twenty years ago they sold for 300$ and you would be doing good to get that now. I have a real bear trap Ide sell you if you want one that bad.

Hutchy,

If I had that trap, I would swap the springs out for a set of Ed Hutzel's superior springs. Not only will they make the trap collectible, they will turn the trap into a real bear trap. His springs are both thinner and stronger than Newhouse springs are. Heck, they're even capable of surviving a fire w-out losing their tempering. Just a thought.

In my humble opinion a real bear trap is one that was made back in the day when a guy could go out and trap one. That pretty much leaves the newhouse, blake and lamb etc....

The natives up north here arent bound by the same laws we are. Some of them still use the duke bear traps...

I don't know this site very well so I apologize if resurrecting this post isn't appropriate....

I have a similar trap that I'd like to sell and I'd like some help getting an estimated value for it. My father in-law passed away last fall. His family owned a sporting goods store in south eastern MN for many years so I assume this trap came from the store.

Cabelas sold them. Would have been a neat display item in a sporting goods store.
My price guide shows them in the 350 to 400 $ range. Might add a tad more with the setter.

Thanks for the info DD. I'm curious what indicates that this is the Cabelas version.

Digger Dale knows his stuff. I sent you a PM too so look for the littl flashing envelope at the top.

I have nothing clever to put here.
