Looking for advice I’ve shot a longbow for years with heavy broadheads and cedar shafts but I’d like to switch to a compound should I go with a rage expandable or stay with a heavy two blade fixed broadhead. My boys all say light and fast with expandables but I’m old school.

Both ways work, but if you're going to a compound your best advantage is light and fast. I shot clear through a moose with a 100 gr. 3 blade fixed 1 inch broadhead with a compound set to 60 pound. It piled up in 50 yards. I am not a fan of mechanicals. Ive seen them fail too many times. (only twice--one was a rage)

Heavy and slow works fine if you hit them right. But the trajectory beyond 20 yards--well,you know.

I used to use mechanical but have since switched to fixed. Mechanical work great if you hit the animal perfectly, if you are very careful about your shots and keep them short mechanical will be fine. This year I made a long shot on a antelope, I misjudged the wind slightly and hit a major bone, I was thankful for having a fixed blade in that situation as it blasted straight through it.

I use fixed blade. Mechanicals will break on most shot especially hitting bone. I’ve hit spine, ribs, and shoulder blades and all I gotta do is sharpen the blade and use them again!

Light and fast is the wrong combo for mechanicals!

I like the complete pass throughs that a Muzzy fixed blade almost always give me. Many deer don't seem to have any Idead what has happened to them, They just trot away, wobble and fall over.
My friends with mechanicals say they noticed the deer they shoot take take off and run further. and they usually do not get complete pass throughs.

Lots of good fixed blades out there, can't say that about the mechanical.

Tough to beat a Slick Trick

When your hunt of a lifetime hinges on your equipment, why have equipment that hinges. Fixed blade all the way.

I have killed 18 deer with my cross bow and I use Rage Mechanicals. Wouldn't even think about using a fixed bladed head.

Both work. I have killed more deer with fixed blade because I have used them longer.

if your hunting just deer you will be fine with what ever you pick. I shoot light and fast now but my heart is still with heavy aluminum arrows with big mechanicals. What ever your preference is. I have used both.

The wind blows both ways. I used to swear by fixed G5 Montecs. Still a good head but narrow. They saved my rear on a couple marginal shots over the years. But lost one in particular that I still believe I shouldn't have. Lately I switched to rage 2 blade. Wow, what a wound. What tracking? No susbstitute for good placement, but gotten love the easy to follow red carpet.

Mech heads are great for squirrels, rabbits and such.

swampgas chili and schmidt beer makes for a deadly combo

You have to remember that 1 out of 3 Democratic Voters is just as dumb as the other two.

But I've been at It for over 15 years. Remember I'm an old guy and I hunt some managed deer ground.

I used to use Thunderhead fixed blades, I was very happy with them, haven't hunted with a bow for years though. Thinking of getting back out there with a crossbow one of these years.

I've been using fixed, G5 Montecs, 100 grain, for about 10 years and will never use another. Cut great and some of the heads have killed several deer each, just re-sharpen. So glad I bought them.
