Anybody use their 1 x1 vinyl coated welded wire? I usually use Riverdale but they don't carry that size. Looking to find something for deck exclusions. Right now I'm using 1 x 1/2" stuff, but that seems overkill. They say they are IL based, but not sure where the wire comes from.

They are out of Chicago and the wire is out of China. I've used them in the past and the wire isn't bad, but it doesn't have the same amount of coating nor do I believe the wire is as good as Riverdale. But since there is a huge price difference between the two, you can't expect it to be the same product. On the flip side, customer service wise I've gotten better service from Fencerwire than Riverdale with having to do a return due to being sent the wrong size.

Case in point, I've still got some 1 x 1 1x2 coated 14 ga from Riverdale I bought about 15 years ago that shows no signs of wear, while the 16 ga 1/2 x 1/2 from Fencerwire I bought last year shows rust on every cut and some breakdown on the coating.

Another company to checkout and at least get a quote from is Louis E. Page at louispage.com and they are the only wire company to have supported our industry I'm aware of. Tell Cheryl (she used to work for Riverdale) that you were referred by WCT as they used to advertise in WCT Magazine. I've also worked with Wire Cloth Man, but had an issue getting quotes when you didn't buy immediately afterwards.

1" x 1" x 48" x 100' 16ga. vinyl coated is all we use for general groundhog, skunk or coon work. For smaller animal work 1/2" or 1/4" inch is used. All vinyl coated material. Most all is imported material that I am aware of. We have had very few problems with quality.

We use commercial grade galvanized material for most other above ground work.

Compare pricing and shipping costs to you from each company to get your best pricing. Shipping is always going to hit you hard due to weight.

I have purchased from most of the noted companies over the years. Some I didn't have a good experience so I have stayed with the following companies for our needs.

Thanks for all the replies. Will look into the suggested companies. I have been using Klubertanz for both the quality product and ability to use SpeeDee delivery, but they don't have a 1 x 1 in 16 gauge for some reason. I will be buying their 1/2 x 1/2 for vent covers though due to the high quality.

While we are on the subject, what does everybody cut their wire with. I've been using side cuts and/or an angle grinder, but both leave much to be desired.

Milwaukie Shears.

We have been using them for longer than I can remember. Very durable tool. The only way to go. We used the 120 volt type but they also have cordless models now I see.

You can buy attachment shears for cordless drill now. I had a set a few years back, but they ran away somewhere. Worked well.

I was thinking the Milwaukee shears too. What model do you recommend?

How about the drill attachment, any recommendations on brands/models there?

Thanks!

The drill attachment is made by Malco and works well, $45-$50 range.
Also have shears, pneumatic cutoff wheels and hand nippers/side cutters in the truck/shop.

Will that drill attachment cut 14 gauge? I bought the 18 ga Milwaukee shears assuming they could cut a larger gauge mesh, since it was not continuous, but the wire wouldn't even fit between the blades...

the one I had would. I use to build commercial grade rabbit hutches with it. I can't remember where I got it from. I have made do with Hardee siding shears, but I doubt you would get more than a few months of use with them.

That is impressive, TRapper. I see Kulbertanz has a shear in their catalog too, I have some wire to order, I'll ask about them.
