I picked this trap up recently and don't see a #11 listed in the first Andreski/Parr book. It is a #1 size and is in great condition. I washed it in soap and water to clean the pan and this also highlights the surface rust. Once I wipe it down with WD-40 it will be really smooth. Is it a common trap and just an oversight or is it an uncommon trap?

In my opinion, a # 11 should be a double long spring trap.

The trap in the picture is a single spring trap and the jaws on the non-spring end appear to more curved/rounded which means the trap would not easily accommodate another spring.

In my opinion, the pan and the trap do not belong together. I would assume the switch was made at the factory, which occasionally happens.

There is/was an actually # 11 Pioneer double long trap made. I have one in my collection. How many were made, I don't know.

Seems not very many want to comment on the Pioneer but I have another question. You may have noticed that this trap has an old tag on it. I always look at the name to see if it is someone that I recognize as a famous trapper (none yet)and then I usually take them off. What are your thoughts on leaving trap tags on traps that will be for collector and/or just wall hangers?

I got this one in a group of traps that shipped from Michigan but I think the tags shows someone in another state. Like you said if it means something as to person or location I plan to leave them on. I do have one trap that has the state issued tags by the year that I have left on.

I most always take the tags off. I figure someday I might have enough to sell for scrap copper. I see a few regular name tags on ebay for $19.95 each. I think if I could get half that price I would be a rich man!!!!!
