From what I've read and what I've picked up on this site and other collectors, is that they are made of paper machete, so probably a lot of them didn't survive, also if they have the original hooks, they are worth the higher money.

Here is a photo of my stump. I bought this one from a government trapper about 6 or 7 years ago.
