I just got a 2 1/2 that has 1878 on the pan. How rare is that one?Pan is notched like a Newhouse, and has 2 round stampings.Post is riveted in like a N.H.Not just through the cross, Like the newer ones.

Yes it is A double underspring. The post is peened on the bottom of the cross, like a rivet. The pan shank is twisted like a normal one but has a notch like a Newhouse ,like a chisel cut.The date April 26 1878 and the 2 1/2 is all that is on the pan.

Yep that is what it says.April 26 1878.RI, No.2 1/2 jaws are rounded on top ,spring is arched and narrower than others.Pan has 2 round stampings that say the same thing.no mention of Blake on the trap at all.

That's a new wrinkle on my horn. i thought i was pretty much up on B.L. traps made before 1890. I couldn't care less about ones made after 1890. The only early stamping's i am aware off is Pat. April 26 59 and the size. Also, Pat. April 26 59 R.I. 78 (R I stands for Reissue) I have Pat. papers on this trap and the Pat was issued April 26 1859. If your trap only has April 26 59 R. I. what was they reissuing? WHAT IS THE EXACT COMPLETE STAMPING ON YOUR TRAP? Although the 78 date is not a true reissue date, that is what is on the pan. There is no mention of BLAKE on them, but the patent parers has BLAKE on them. Your first post said it had 1878 on the pan. Your next post said that all that was on the pan was, April 26 1878, After i mentioned the Reissue (RI) you posted on your last post that it had April 26 1859 RI. Keep looking and i bet you will find more.

Ok It says April 26 ???? RI 1878 ,Whatever it says, ends in 59 right before the RI. I would have to do some serious cleaning to make it out clear. I bought several No.2s and there is a few different models,This one,a later models with twisted pan shanks, straight shank, and one with a round pan and cross like a coil, has the dip in it for the spring pin, fastened on with a factory rivet, the rest are fastened with a strap and 2 rivets.chains are on the end of cross and some are on the end.some have the ends of the jaw tips flattened out so they wont come out.some have rounded corners on the pans and some are sharp. The old one has a cast swivel,on cross end ,S hook ,lock link chain,2 rivets holding the pan to the twisted shank,A > type notch and dog.I'll try to get some decent pics up.

It should say Pat. April 26 1859 RI 1878, You say that this one is a later model. If you post pictures, please post pictures of the ones you think is earlier also. What is on the pan of the earlier traps?

I tried to do some pics last night but it wouldn't work. This comp. doesn't work the best. The pan is a rectangle and is stamped twice in a circle ,2 round top rivets to hold it on the shank.Of the 10 I bought ,It is the 2nd strongest one.The strongest is messed up some and has to be fixed.???
