This is repost from trapper talk. Can anyone tell me what type of trap this is and give me an idea of relative value? The trap is in great shape, fully functional, and has no visible markings. The pan has "hammered" finish. It is over 48 inches in length.

There is a link posted in this thread that shows a trap that is kind of similar to yours. The trap in the link, is a Man Trap.

Not an expert or even collector, but my trap seems to to be to small to be "man trap". I'm thinking a type of bear trap. From my limited research it looks like a large newhouse, but there are no markings.

Arrowsmith, Your trap is not a Newhouse. It appears to be a well make forged or shop made trap not a production trap. Without any markings it is hard to say who or when it was made. From it's size I would say it was made for bear.

Snakecollector, do you think this is an old trap, as in antique with real value, or is it probably something newer that may not be worth more than the couple Hundred I paid for it 15 years ago.

I can not really give you a value, if it was marked and could be linked to a specific maker, it would have more value. Age is hard to tell from the photos, it does not appear to be super old. If it has any electric welding from it's construction, it is definitely not old. Sorry I can't be more help.
