I'm sure I recall someone discussing Angie's List in the past on here, but has anyone had any success using Home Advisor?

I have used them. Started about a year ago. Wanted $89.00 for 3 months and $12.99 a call. Was not getting enough calls to justify the $89.00 fee. I get 1 to 2 calls every 3 months. Got them to agree to just the per call fee. They had no idea about the Wildlife control side. Wanted to do us like the do the bug people.

Thanks for the reply, Jim. I don't have too much problem with the yearly membership fee, it's the "connection" fee that bothers me. $12.99 a call, whether you land the job or not.

Now just because we didn't get enough business from them, doesn't mean that you won't. Some small companies do okay; we are not one

of those companies.

I have always been a fan. Them and Adwords got me going when I got started. I just turned them back on a month ago after being off since Feb. Since Nov 9 I have gotten 15 calls at $13-$20 each. Sold 3 of them for a gross of $2300. Its a small sample size. I used to close much higher. As a percentage of sales, its on the higher side of forms of advertising that I do, but considering the time of year I am happy to use them.

Thanks for that data. I will admit I'm terrible at marketing. Have had zero luck with Adwords. Ran it for 4 months, had 24,423 impressions, with only 133 clicks, 2 calls, and closed neither one of those. So I paused my campaigns. All my jobs have come from word of mouth or through our Department of Fish and Wildlife's NWCO directory. But it's been slow getting started. Fortunately this is not my only source of income, or I would have starved to death by now, lol.

Just looking for ways to help spread the word. Facebook has brought more attention to my company than anything so far, but again, it's slower than I expected it would be after 4 months.

I have the Ultimate Guide to Google Adwords on my bookshelf. Honestly, makes me want to get out of the service industry and into selling products.

selling products is a big industry...but although I like creating things on websites and getting phones to ring...I really love being outdoors working...I do what I love for a living and as a hobby...

Thought I would chime in about Homeadvisor. I started using them approximately 6 months ago. I own and operate a chimney sweep company here in North Carolina. I deal with ALOT of dead or trapped animals inside chimneys and fireplaces. Homeadvisor charges me a pretty hefty lead fee. Depending on the city the lead is located in dictates my price I pay. I have a budget set that I am considering doubling. The name of the game with HomeAdvisor is you got to answer the phone and you got to call people almost immediately. If not, the next company is going to snag the job out from under you.
I don't get near as many calls about animal removal as I do my chimney repairs though. Most of my animal calls come once the animal is already dead. frown
