Wasn't long after this wreck(caused by inland beaver dam failure) that the railroad bulletined a permanent job for a full time Beaver control 4man which I successfully bid on,and held until retirement several years ago.
6oo mile long permanent trapline, best job I ever had.

The CBI ( Canadian Bureau of Investigation ) has since concluded that the derailment was caused by someone who was looking for "The

Best Job He Ever Had."

Love it. Similar situation here, but for a power company. we have 415 miles of lines in remote areas to control. It always amazes me how when a few million dollars worth of equipment goes in the drink, they are willing to talk maintenance and control ideas.
Great job. I do have to wonder why retire???
When I sold my construction company and started doing this full time, I thought I did retire. Been trapping beavers full time for the last 13 years.

So how do you check all of these miles of track? Do you have one of those little hand cars that you pump up and down like they have

on the Three Stooges?

No,Paul, I looked after about 75 miles of track every 2 weeks, with a one ton ford f 350 powerstroke diesel hi rail.
I would start in the south after a 2 day aerial survey by chopper and work my way north then back again by fall.
Track forces would take care of emergency situations then I would set it up within 24 hrs.
The track forces sure liked it when we showed up,they hated breaking beaver dams, especially the same ones over and over again.
The brass didn't like having the track mtc guys breaking dams all the time either as it took them away from track work.
I had basically free reign and unlimited overtime as long as I was wiping out beaver and dropping the water.
All the overtime increased my pension significantly and also allowed me to take an early pension.

Boco, glad someone is getting a good pension. I worked in union shops most of my 30 years. ( 23 in one place ) I just looked up my

pension again to make sure. Yep, I get $82.67 a month. You probably don't want to know how I feel about unions. On the bright side,

they never put me in a higher tax bracket.

You couldn't have been putting much in to get that low of a pension, lol.
I make the same on pension as I did when working a 40 hr week.

Don't get me wrong. I did not hate factory work and I made a decent living but owning you own business is really rewarding. Not only

in the financial rewards, but also in job enjoyment and work satisfaction. I do wish I could make out the checks so that I make twice

as much as my wife, instead of vise versa, but you can't have everything.

Thanks for the ideas! I did get it knocked out. I bought 3 - 12' 2x4's and screwed them together and pounded them through with a sledge. I never caught the beaver but messed with him enough that he left the area. They just called me because the beaver has come back. I wish I could shoot him because he swims right up to me when I'm making sets, but this is HOA owned pond surrounded by houses in town. I was surprised that he left the area and did a google earth map and realized there is another pond just a few hundred yards through a wooded area. They said they were going to set me up as a normal vendor and keep calling me back. They have had others out before and they never caught the beaver. They were happy that at least there was no beaver activity since I left. I also cleaned up a bunch of muskrats while I was out there, so they were pleased with that. Now I would really like to figure out how to catch this sucker...I hate leaving things undone.

If he's moving between ponds, you should be able to catch him. set up a couple castor mounds with drowners

I set 3 castor sets, conibear in one culvert, snare set on the other culvert; this morning. He was pretty active last night so I feel pretty good about my chances.
