If that skunk is not trap shy in the first post, then why has it not been caught yet where 2 others was and it keeps digging a new hole? Just askin

Don't know, maybe just lucky. I'd like to see a pic of the situation. I've had skunks dig under my traps to get under a shed, then get caught coming out. But, that was a winter breeding situation. I had one a couple years ago that gave me fits, I'd put traps at damage, he would move to other part of lawn. I always figured he was just staying a step ahead of me. Wish I had put a camera on that one to see if he ever came close to my cages. Ending up catching it at a drainage pipe going in. Other than that, I don't recall having major trouble with a skunk.
Could it be a raccoon doing the digging?
99% of the time, animals take the path of least resistance. A positive set with or without bait should be effective first night if den is active.
Ron, do you have any videos of skunks avoiding cages?
Now you have me wondering how many I don't catch.

I normally relocate my skunks but the few that seemed trap-shy, as Jonesie described, got planted. ( Or else I shipped them to Monroeville )

Well,I think jonsie is right about this one. I pulled all the traps for a few days then set a 9x11 Comstock with both doors open away from the hole baited with fried chicken. Then marshmallows. Trailed the bait into the trap. He will not go into the trap. I'm going to try your idea Jonsie. I don't think that there is a bait that will get him into the trap.
