And to think it only took two hundred years to figure it out. I've always wanted to visit Australia. Maybe now I can get a job killing cats

Another good reason to visit that country. Good on ya, Australia!

I guess it's a start. Not sure how fast they breed but, only taking out 10% of the problem over a 5yr span. They're still going to be losing 67.5 million other native animals a day after taking out the 2 million cats.

They have some of the best invasive species people in the world due to the fact they've also had a long time with a ton of feral and invasive animals.

For feral hogs or "feral pigs" as they'd call them, they were great folks to learn from and talk to via internet and at conferences, also those from New Zealand.

They've been working on many of these species far longer than we have in our country and hopefully their steps on this issue will help promote campaigns
here and elsewhere.

Feral cats are a blight and we caused it and are still causing it. Not just the little old lady feeding the feral cat colony in the city, but the farmers I know with
barn cat colonies like I had as a kid and the folks who leave fluffy out and somehow fluffy avoid predation and ends up breeding a feral cat, etc....

Truly there aren't many folks who aren't part of the problem unless they fall into the group that simply doesn't own any cats. Or they keep their cat they do own
indoors 100% of the time or have an outdoor enclosure to keep the cat protected while protecting all the wildlife from the cat.

Thanks for sharing Ron!

With an estimated population of 20 million, I don't believe killing 2 million over the course of 5 years will do anything but ensure the problem continues unabated.

Long term job security from what it sounds like.

Besides the well known invasive rabbit, Australia has three kinds of rats and the house mouse which are also invasive. So they

introduced the red fox to take care of the problem and it is now an invasive species too. If you want to go crazy, look at

Australia's invasive list. They should probably kill everything and start over.
