More likely the Jaws were changed. Parts off the Newhouse #4 size traps are pretty much interchangeable.
Post a picture if you get a chance.

Are the jaws offset or regular?

Parts get interchanged on a regular basis by trappers, that's been going on for years.

# 4 Newhouse - regular jaws, no teeth

# 14 Newhouse - offset jaws, with teeth

# 48 Newhouse - regular jaws, with teeth

# 44 Newhouse - don't remember for sure on the jaws. I do know that the factory original chain attachment was on the bottom piece and not the spring.

All 4 of the above Newhouse traps are the exact same size, so all parts (pans, springs, jaws) would be interchangeable.

WissMiss, the 14 Newhouse- offset jaw with teeth, very good pan, stamped springs are very readable to great condition without bears. Correct chain and swivel with surface rust. With this description of the trap what is a reasonable value of it?
