I'm going to post some pictures tonight of the railroad ditches I'm trapping. I've had traps out for a week now and have only caught 2 beaver. I know it's smoking hot and the beaver aren't moving much but I've got to make these move somehow.

This job is only a mile from my house and I took it thinking it would be easy because both sides of the railroad are flooded and there were multiple trails crossing the railbed. Same landowner I trapped for this winter so I'm still working this job on a $ per head basis and haven't got the equipment to tear dams out!

Any suggestions?

Make small hole in the dam with a potato hook and put foot holds in front of them.
The sound of water running will bring them out to fix the Dam.

Take traps out until just before the next 1-2" rain unless you find the bank den. If you can lower water level enough to expose den holes lower in morning and make sets just before dark.

Water temperature may be too high for movement.

I looked at forecast. Rain may be a while coming.

I've got 17 small dams like this one spread out over about a mile. I broke several this afternoon just to see if they would repair them. I can see dozens of holes in the banks across the ditches so hopefully I can drop the levels enough tonight and tomorrow to see which ones are actual den holes.

I hope your right Mr. Kirk! I need to show some results here pretty quick.

Thanks!

If they fix the dam back , you may be able to break it again and shoot them at dark 30 or past ?

Hope you didn't price the job by the beaver ? You will go broke during the summer.

Swampboss it is a per head job! Lol!
Never again!

The dams I broke last night hadn't been repaired and the water level was down at least 8 inches. With no running water into these ditches I believe the beaver have moved into the creek that is farther down the ditch. That's where I caught the 2 beaver at earlier this week.

Dams still weren't repaired this morning and the water was down between 16 and 20 inches.

I took Mr. Kirk's advice and pulled all my traps out.

Thanks for all the advice.
