i bought some cable stakes, not the cast bullet superstake types, but these are basically a 3" length of pipe cut at a 45 degree on each end with a nut welded in the middle. the vendor did not have any drivers for this type. i've attempted a few times to make one, but they just get jammed up and pull the stake back out with the driver. unfortunately with both ends of the stake open i need a very substantial shelf for the driver to push against the stake.
thoughts?

we fixed that problem, we make our own cable stakes and use a bigger pipe as well, i think schedule 30 pipe, on one end of the pipe anchor, we weld a plug so when driving the anchor in the ground, there is not plugging up the driver to the anchor, much easier

If You will wax Your cable stake ends this will help tremendously,as it will lubacate the inside of the pipe and keep dirt from packing inside it, Scott

if your using it in the water put the point of the driver to the point of the stake and it should come of easier. if you are using it for land trapping use it just like you have pictured and twist the handle as you pull out of the ground. hope this helps.

If i see that right, instead of grinding it down, start with a rod that fits into the stake, then weld a pipe the same diameter as the stake and cut to a 45 degree angle over the rod with how ever you need sticking out. I tried lots of stakes of that kind and always had the sticking problem. The best thing i found to help was drive in a pilot hole then push in the stake.

Could you possibly build up a weld bead collar at that interface on the driver end to offset the perfect mating with the anchor, so it does not bind at the area shown in your illustration?

I would be interested in the resolution, because I picked up two dozen of these on eBay last year and have not designed or fabricated my driver as yet. Have not given it much thought until now that you brought it up because I am using a different anchor type with a driver that works.

Does anyone know if someone has solved this for this driver question fitting this anchor type, and come up with a "dedicated" driver for sale? I have not yet researched this myself.

If you load the cable stake point to point. They come off much easier. I saw this tip on Red O'hearn's coon video. Heres a pic.

I only use the bullet stakes but have my problems with those. I go through a driver every 3 dozen stakes.

After the first 12-18 the end that fits into the bullet starts to mushroom and it has to be filled/ground down or it hangs up in the stake end.

The weakest part is the reduced diameter end that fits into the stake right at the 90 or step. If you can find a way to taper the end and use more of a tapered compression the weak spot is eliminated.

Just some thoughts for ideas.
