I will work as hard on fur catching as I possibly can.

A trap is only a trap if you dont know about it. If you know about it, its a challenge

Fur trap every year. ADC work slows in the winter here.

Hey Vinke, when I was trapping fur, raccoons averaged $25 most of the time. ( I take great pride in the fact that I averaged $40.60 in 1978 ) The season has been open for four days now and I must have driven by $400 worth of dead raccoons on the highway today. Not a lot of raccoon skinners in our area anymore, apparently.

As long as we're dating ourselves Paul, back in '78 my trapping partner told a couple of gals from school that they could make money picking up those roadkills and hauling them to the local fur buyer who would take anything in the round. They lined the trunk with plastic and went to work. They ended up making $1100 picking up road pizzas that winter. Not bad money in '78, and even better for them that they didn't have any overhead in the way of traps, baits, or waders.
I've seen an upswing in coons on the highway this past two weeks, but also a heck of a lot of deer. There was a dead spike buck in the left turn lane coming out of my neighborhood this morning. My wife left about an hour after I did and it was already gone. Highway Dept isn't that efficient, so I'm thinking someone salvaged some blacktop venison this morning. Odd that the other 4 deer I saw this morning were still there later in the day. Maybe it's because they were all antlerless.

Kevin, you'll love this and it's the honest to God's truth. This was in that late 70's period when raccoon were bringing great bucks. I'm coming home from work and this raccoon runs across the road and the car in front of me nails it. I open my driver's door and scoop him up and throw him on the floor on the passenger side.

The driver pulls over and is backing up to pick up his raccoon but he doesn't seem to be able to find him. Well the joke wasn't only on him. The raccoon woke up in the front seat of my car and he wasn't very happy. It was 50/50 who was going to get killed first but fortunately I wasn't very far from home and I won by a hair.

The 10th for me. Mine opens on the 5th, but I am going to KY for the WCT convention. So it will be the 10th before I can get any traps set.

I have a lot of beaver work when the season opens. Other work is beginning to slow down so I always love to get out and set for fur.

Ill call in bobcat for fur. I don't really trap them though. Too much time away. Deer season starts Saturday so I will be out there.

Well said, Rick! Not to take anything away from you fur trappers ( Because that's where I came from and I used to do the same thing ) But I think that you've probably finally realized that you actually are running an important business for your community when you are so busy in November that you can't trap fur. ( Or go to Lexington, which makes me kind of sad )

Because we promise humane treatment as well as relocation on all healthy animals we are careful to use different trucks and no uniforms on the fur line.
Wouldn't want a facebook post of us knocking a raccoon out.
