I walk on tiles all the time, as long as they have some kind of quality you'll be alright.

Major difference between old Spanish tile or terra cotta clay type and modern tile roofs with concrete composite. We have both here of course, wouldn't walk on the old style, the new style is walked on every day by anyone needing roof access. Is a question of weight distribution and where on the tile you place your feet. I've been on a roof for three days straight doing bird exclusion with no tiles broken and watched another type of contractor walk normally and smash 3-5 tiles in about 10 min of work.
I photograph the roof on my way across and explain to folks I am doing so ahead of time. Usually they have quite a few broken or cracked already and know if sonething needs to happen up there it is a known risk.
I wear a thin soled pair of Patagonia dress shoes. This was found by accident, they grip well and aren't wide like work boots so fit valleys perfectly for me. Most of my tile isn't pitched much so steep isn't my issue.
**disclaimer - nearly every tile roof even modern state warranty is voided when walked on, yet the roofer, hvac, etc... all walk on them daily.**
Have done 20 tile roofed homes in last two years with only one cracked tile that was replaced before I left.

DO they work on tile roofs? I inspect roof tops for living and yes the cougar paws work unless there is something between you and the tile. Wet moss will plant you on the ground fast. Excessive granule loss on a comp shingle or leaf litter on a steep slope will also get you in trouble. On of my closest calls was a 8/12 metal roof in a feedlot. The dust the cattle kicked up heavily coated the roof and would roll under your boots like nothing I have ever seen.

I did a five story roof job yesterday and my wife knew about it. I was nervous for the first time because of her. She said she would never forgive me if I fell.
Well okay, but if I fell, I really don't think that I would be in any position to care anyway.

I had a pair of the hi top shoes , just blew the side out of one yesterday. I have another pair of the boots on the way. Would not want to work with out them. Not only do you stay safe but they dont damage the roofing near as bad as regular shoes and thats a BIG plus.
