The root is dug and dehydrated so that there is very little to no moisture left in the root, and, then sold. The way you know it won't be over harvested is by not digging it to soon . It is one of the first woods plants to flower in the spring. That makes it one of the first plants to have it's seeds ripe to drop. This usually happens in late may or early june and later or earlier depending on what part of the country you live in. Once the seeds have dropped, it is ready to harvest. The plants do very well at reproducing through the planting of seeds.

crawdad crawford OP trapper Joined: Sep 2011 Posts: 172 Indiana	seen it used as a salve to remove "cancerous" skin moles ...it is said to eat just the bad flesh and leave the rest but i wouldn't recommend it. look at youtube for the video. Commercially it is used in toothpaste and other dental hygiene products to eliminate plaque and bacteria. And also used as a natural dye. my redneck cancels out my blue collar #countryboycansurvive
