I'm curious to see if you guys put traps for coons in attics or not. I've never done it. I don't like to give animals choices. I keep hearing from customers that the last company put the trap in the attic and never caught the coon. Never really computes to me.

DP in the attic? There must be a ton of damage? I've seen what the do to dirt, sod, etc. Can't imagine what a coon on a leash in an attic would do.

I do it (cages) sometimes in the winter when getting to the raccoons door is just to dangerous, and snowing or freezing rain outside will hinder traps. I use Sweet smelling bait, and have few problems with it. Usually put the traps close to the latrine. Make sure not to have any wires within raccoon reach:)

Does anyone make a tube trap large enough for a racoon?

I think I would put two dog proofs close enough so he can put a paw in each one limiting his ability to damage greatly.
I never did have the greatest success with cages in the attic but I never tried it very much because my biological clock isn't real accurate and I would have to meet the customer to check them causing human to human conflict.

I made 10" and 8" double doored tube traps out of pvc. Didn,t have enough interest. They are heavy and expensive compared to a regular cage when using PVC.

Eventually, I will have them made out of metal. The intitial cost would warrant a large number to be made to keep cost down.

I've got six, eight, twelve, and twenty four inch tube traps that I make. Like already stated they get to be pretty heavy. Unless you have a source for the PVC they can also be expensive.

Why not place a conibear on a rafter with a stabilizers and hook the chain up hi so the raccoon can not get a hold of anything. I would shorten the chain. You could even put a box or something to help him reach the trap.

I'm not much on in the attic for the simple fact how do you check the trap but when I must them drive sensers work good for let the people know there's some thing in the trap . You would think setting in the attic would be the place but it normally takes to long . Customers are all forit thinking that's the place and sure to catch the right animal but setting over the hole from the outside is sure to stop the damage done faster than anywhere .

Just finished a job where the tenant had one of those $20 Chinese specials in the attic...baited with peanut butter...in a pie pan in front of the treadle...he actually thought he had caught the raccoon!
I showed up with my Safeguard Universal trap; he says, "That's the exact same trap that I'm using."
True story.

I bet you a dollar to a box of Argo starch that if I put a foothold in an attic the homeowner would be calling me raising holy you know what about the raccoon chandelier hanging through the ceiling.

No kidding. THe last one I went to a big pest control company sealed the hole during the day then put the trap on the ground. Wonder why they never caught the coon.
